We welcome the latest UK Government announcements and the setting out of the country’s roadmap return to normality. The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta Committee is pleased to say we are continuing to work alongside all the relevant authorities with the ambition of running the 176th Dartmouth Regatta this summer.
Everyone appreciates this has been an incredibly difficult year for all, and it is truly fantastic to see light at the end of the tunnel, particularly for our local businesses and community, who have been hit hard by restrictions and closures.
All of the elements that make up a ‘normal’ Regatta, such as sailing, rowing, crabbing, swimming and our famous Coronation Park arena, to name just a few, are being closely scrutinised to see how we can ensure they feature safely as part of the hopeful 2021 festivities. Following on from our unprecedented cancellation last year (only the 11th time in our 175 year history), we feel our local community could really do with something to look forward to, take part in and celebrate. It really would be super to watch some competitive sport, or see the look of joy on a junior crabber’s face; to dance under the stars or shop til you drop; to spend quality time with good friends and family. We are all longing for it.
As ever, nothing is of more importance to us than the safety of all who attend our town’s Regatta. We will be working closely as ever with Dartmouth Town Council to put on a safe, successful and sustainable 176th Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta in 2021, and indeed DTC will return as Major Sponsors of the Regatta. We also continue to watch and listen as mentioned at the beginning of this statement, to all of the latest advice and information from the UK Gov and most importantly the outcome of the large event research currently being undertaken by the DCMS, very closely. We know from experience that everything can change at a moment’s notice.
Be assured that if we can put on an event, it will be safe and compliant for all to enjoy. Flexibility will be built in across the whole event to accommodate any uncertainty. We also continue to work closely with Sailors for the Seas Clean Regatta accreditation, and are aiming high for a Platinum award, and we will, if successful, be one of the only Regattas in the world to achieve this.
But for now, we continue to get stuck in, and the planning and organisation continues! Sign up for our newsletter, via our new website, to be kept up to date with all the latest news here. You can also be a part of it – why not contact us to join our merry volunteer team?
We are very much hoping to see all of your lovely faces in the beautiful port of Dartmouth and Kingswear at the end of August!
