Dartmouth Regatta — Aiming for Platinum Clean Regatta Certification

Leading the Way in Sustainable Rowing & Sailing — Two Years and Counting

We’re proud to announce that the Dartmouth Regatta is once again pursuing Platinum Clean Regatta certification—our third consecutive year striving for the highest recognition from Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas programme. As part of the broader Clean Class Initiative, our regatta plays a key role in reinforcing an environmentally conscious culture across the class—not just for one event, but year-round commitment.

What Makes It Platinum-Level?

Being designated a Clean Regatta—especially at the Platinum level—means we’re going above and beyond in reducing environmental impact. We’re setting clear, consistent expectations for all participants, organisers, and partners to uphold sustainable best practices

Here’s how we’re tackling this goal:

  • Providing easy access to refillable water stations, encouraging reusable bottles to minimise single-use plastic.

  • Offering recycling and compost bins, and using only compostable or reusable serviceware.

  • Engaging volunteer “Green Teams” to oversee sustainability efforts on-site and assist participants.

Join Us in Sailing Sustainably

By continuing our pursuit of Platinum-level certification, the Dartmouth Regatta not only continues to deliver exceptional racing and camaraderie—it also leads by example in preserving our waterways and community heritage.

We invite all rowers, sailors, families, and partners to join us in making this our greenest regatta yet—because every action, big or small, ripples outward.

2024

Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta retains International Environmental Award.

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta has again been awarded the prestigious Sailors For The Sea Platinum Accreditation as part of an International Clean Regatta certification.
Sailors for the Sea is the world’s leading ocean conservation organisation that educates and activates the sailing and boating community toward restoring ocean health. Events are judged in a series of 20 categories, and for the second year running, Dartmouth has attained the Platinum highest award.
Regatta Chairman Ed Botterill said:
‘We are thrilled to be recognised internationally by this Platinum Sustainability Award, one of only 3 UK based Regattas. Not only do the Regatta Committee, Rowers, Sailors, Traders and all of our visitors work hard and contribute to this recognition, but we wouldn’t be able to succeed without the incredible and sustainable work of the Dart Harbour and Navigation Authority and the magnificent waste removal and recycling division of South Hams District Council. This award is recognition for all of those involved in making a sustainable and responsible event in the year of our 180th Royal Regatta.’
The 180th Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta will take place between 23-30 Aug 25.
