This year’s Regatta Tennis Tournament – the 45th – is again comprised of both a Closed and Open tennis tournaments.
The Closed Tournament is intended to attract all standards of local players resident in the parishes of Dartmouth, Kingswear, Townstal, Strete, Stoke Fleming Blackawton, Dittisham, Cornworthy, Morleigh and Halwell, and services personnel based at BRNC.
The Open Tournament, supported by the Lawn Tennis Association, attracts those British Tennis Members interested in accumulating ranking points, with the singles being Grade4 standard. There are in total 21 events run over the week long tournament.
The event is played on the four macadam surfaced courts at Coronation Park (two of which are floodlit) and at the Britannia Royal Naval College.
Linda Hill will be returning for her fifth year as Tournament Referee.
The tournament is sponsored by Dartmouth’s own Cafè Alf-Resco in association with Pro-Direct Tennis, the counties largest online retailer of tennis clothing and equipment.
The Closed Tournament
The Closed Tournament will be formatted as last year and will commence on Friday23rd August and runs on the Saturday and Sunday, with Finals on the following Friday 30th and Saturday 31st August – events include Womens and Mens Singles; Womens, Mens and Mixed Doubles and Veterans Doubles events. There are also Under 16 Girls and Boys singles event, with a Consolation Event for early round losers.
The Open Tournament
The Open Tournament commences on Monday 26th August with Finals on Saturday 31st August - events include Womens and Mens Singles; Womens, Mens and Mixed Doubles; and Mens Veterans Singles and Veterans Womens, Mens and Mixed Doubles events.
A very popular Family Doubles is also on offer for any under 16 junior playing with a parent, guardian or grandparent. So all ages and standards are welcome, no excuse for Mums and Dads there!
Play commences daily at 9.30am and runs until 6pm, refreshments are available in a courtside marquee, and the Finals start at 10am on Saturday 31st August, with the trophy presentation at approx 4.30pm in the afternoon. Spectators are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.
