The Bandstand provides a focus during the Regatta for those not involved in the water sports. Many of the visitors just like to sit and people-watch and listen to music. It’s not easy to provide different genres that will appeal to everyone but every act featured this year got very enthusiastic receptions from the large crowds that gathered every day.
There was everything from jazz to swing and from party to 1950s and both the audiences and the acts had a great time.
It was intentional to keep away from the louder rock bands that had been dominating the Bandstand music over the past few years and that seemed to be appreciated. A softer approach for the daytime and dance bands for the evening gave everyone the chance to ‘do their thing’.
Next year, it is hoped that not every act will be a band. Perhaps some dance troupes will appear. Perhaps even a novelty act or two – who knows – just watch this space!
