We are delighted to announce that the 2012 Regatta Guardship will be HMS St Albans.
St. Albans is a Type 23 Frigate with a displacement of 4900 tonnes. She is capable of carrying a Lynx HMA8 or a Westland Merlin HM1. Built at Yarrows Yard - Glasgow, launched in 2000 and commissioned in 2002. The current ship is the 6th Royal Navy Ship to bear the name HMS St. Albans. The Port of Dartmouth will be enhanced during the Regatta with this imposing warship with a length of 133 m. 16.1 m beam and a draught of 7.3. m. and a capable speed of 28 knots.
The Regatta Committee welcome HMS St. Albans to our Regatta and sincerely hope that her crew which is a compliment of 185 enjoy their stay with us.
The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta are very proud of the tradition of a Regatta Guardship visiting our Port, for the Annual three day event. We look forward to Thursday 30th August when hopefully we can announce that approaching Castle Ledge awaiting our D.H.N.A. pilot is our Royal Navy Guardship to help us celebrate the 190th Anniversary of our Regatta.
